Board Meeting
Board members present: Ellen Franke, Toby Pennell, Deborah Gallagher, Mia Taft
Call to Order: The meeting was held at the Churchland Book Nook. The meeting was called to order by Deborah at 4:30.
Minutes: The meeting of 4/25/23 was reviewed.
Correspondence: None
Financial Report by Treasurer: Ellen reported the Operating Account has a balance of $49,412.90. The Copier Account is $9,732.75. The CD account has $ 27,224.12.
Unfinished Business: The Main Library Saturday book sale is open again after being closed due to remodeling issues. We are accepting all copies of paperback fiction to “restock” our shelves, as our paperbacks had to be thrown out. The PPL Local Author Expo was a success. More people showed up than expected. We were given the rest of the t-shirts to sell in the two book sale sites. We have a “new to us” donated 4 drawer filing cabinet at Main to hold past FOPPL paperwork now.
New Business : Ellen has been approached and researched recarpeting of the entry for the Churchland library with FOPPL paying for it. Cherry Carpeting (who had done the work in the past) quoted $5959.85 to remove the old carpeting and re carpet the area. Board members approved the amount but suggested she get more quotes from other Portsmouth businesses to compare as that seemed high. Ellen also researched the cost to replace 2 broken folding tables in the Coleman room. The manufacturer doesn’t sell the exact table anymore but similar tables were $463 or $377 for a powdered coat style. She also suggested buying a cheaper style folding table for the kitchen to expand the counter space there. Toby offered to have Tommy Pennell look at them and see if they can be repaired instead of replacing them. We approved having her buy an inexpensive folding table for the kitchen from Target or Walmart. Rachel has contacted us to see if we would be willing to sponsor some coats (and a book) for Project Warm. Deborah said she would ask Rachel for a more detailed expense request and information. Amanda, Mia and Toby will organize the Oct. member meeting. Pam Nichols will be doing a book signing at Main library and FOPPL will provide refreshments. We approved this for up to $250. Amanda and Mia will manage that activity. Toby bought a broom/dustpan for the Main library book sale area and was reimbursed.
Library Director’s Report: None
Meeting was adjourned at 5:15
