FOPPL BOARD MEETING: June 14, 2024

Friends of the Portsmouth Public Library, Inc.

June 14,2024

Board Meeting

Board members present:  Amanda Taft, Ellen Franke, Deborah Gallagher, Toby Pennell

Call to Order:  The meeting was held at the Churchland Public Library Book Nook. Amanda called the meeting to order at 4:00.

Minutes:  The meeting of 4/12/24 was reviewed.

Correspondence:  None

Financial Report by Treasurer:  Ellen reported the Operating Account has a balance of $76,158.47. (The CD account was rolled over into the Operating Account.) The Copier Account is $7,237.42.

Unfinished Business:  No one has heard back from Todd or Portsmouth regarding the status of the copiers. Ellen will continue to try and get an answer before July 1; when we said the copiers would transfer over to them. We discussed the possibility of going to the City Council (via meeting or email) to explain what FOPPL is and find out which council member is on the same committee as PPL. (Toby volunteered to find out about which council member.) The “Rocking for Reading” program has come up again. Sherry from Churchland Library has not filled out our form with the funding request yet. Amanda will talk with her to get more specifics about the program and how the rocking chairs will be used. (for ex. only for Dementia patients and only put out when requested or for the public to use too) The Author Expo used $1600.00 of FOPPL money. However, we would like more input into the next one (more marketing and diverse authors).

New Business:  Toby has bought some of the FOPPL logo t-shirts and reports the quality is good. Judy Romain died and requested contributions be given to us. We have gotten $700 in memorials and Amanda has sent all that information to the family. We also got a $1000 donation from Cara Wilkinson of AL and Amanda will get more information on that. Aleeze contacted Amanda with a request to sponsor a Little Free Library in Churchland in honor of her mother. Aleez lives out of state but her mother lived in Portsmouth and she wanted a library on Rivershore Dr. She wondered if we could provide the books. Amanda will send the info to Toby. Toby will contact Aleez to get more details on where to locate it and who will be responsible for stocking it. Toby mentioned the Hello Sweetie Cheesecake (downtown Portsmouth business) would like to offer a percentage of her monthly sales to FOPPL. We will contact her to discuss this possibility and choose a month. (She previously did this for the Friends of the Portsmouth Mounted Patrol.) Amanda noted we have some new volunteers. We discussed a “banned books” theme for our October membership meeting with raffle baskets and/or an embroidered duffle bag.

Library Director’s Report: None

Meeting was adjourned at 5:00.
